6ft LEGO® Detroit Sports Build Unveiled

October 11, 2017
Auburn Hills, Michigan

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center celebrated Detroit as the first city in the country to have all four major teams playing within the downtown district by revealing a 6ft, 1,500 lb sculpture on Wednesday. It features an old-English 'D' and the logos of the Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers & Lions.

The event was attended by the Annual Pass Holders of the Discovery Center as well as Annual Pass Holders from SEA LIFE Michigan, the state's largest aquarium. Both attractions are located at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets.

Clint P., LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan's own Master Model Builder, spent over 150 hours designing and building the masterpiece out of 72,750 LEGO® bricks. "This giant build is a great way for us to celebrate Detroit's renaissance with the sports-loving kids and families who come to visit us", said Clint. "It will inspire the next generation to carry on the sports culture we've come to know and love in this city."

The 6ft Detroit Sports Build will be on display in the Admissions area of LEGOLAND Discovery Center. All of Great Lakes Crossings Outlets' guests will be able to take photos with the sculpture, even without tickets to the attraction.

"We'd love our visitors to use #DetroitSports when they share photos with the build on social media. It'd be great if we could get this movement trending on Facebook so we can show the whole world how proud we are of our teams", said Debbie Gibb, marketing manager for LEGOLAND Discovery Center.
